Kedareshvara Temple   |   Shivamogga

Balligavi, known by various other names such as Belagami, Belligave, etc., is a town located in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. It is said that during the 11th and 12th centuries, this place was of learning importance, and has also been recognised as ‘Anadi Rajadhani’ or ancient capital of Karnataka. The Kedareshwara Temple in this area dates back to the 11th century, that golden era of Chalukyan architecture in Karnataka. This is one amongst the many temples constructed under the rule of the Hoysala dynasty in Karnataka, in Chalukyan style of architecture. This Kedareshwara Temple has also been marked as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India.
